What is debt review and how can it help me?
Debt review is a process aimed at assisting over–indebted consumers obtain debt relief whilst simultaneously ensuring that their debt gets paid thus ensuring consumers exit the debt review or debt counselling process with a clean credit record.
The debt review process was set by the National Credit Regulator (NCR) in 2007, and requires that a registered debt counsellor assist over indebted consumers by assessing their personal debt situation then follow a set procedure to reduce the consumers debt by negotiating with their lenders. Typically longer debt repayment periods and /or reductions in the interest rates changed on their debt are the key areas that are focused on. In some cases, the interest rates can be reduced to zero.
Debt counsellors will propose a revised debt repayment schedule and enter into negotiations with a consumer’s creditors on their behalf, proposing more affordable monthly repayment schedules.
Once the revised repayment negotiations have been concluded and the revised plans accepted, Debt-911 will engage the courts to formalise the outcome, leading to a reduced monthly debt repayment burden for our clients.
